Kat Art: Truth

The Truth

We no longer live in a world which simply accepts God’s Word as truth, nor do people rely on science and technology to reason out truth. Rather, our society is steeped in a search for the purpose and meaning of life, avoiding the blind acceptance of anyone’s truth as absolutely the Truth. Yet, how can something which is The Truth not be The Truth just because beings created by that Truth decide so?

Today’s immense challenge for those who know Truth intimately is that of building relationships with those who seek life’s meaning and purpose. Presenting as first a plausible source of Truth, and eventually the only source of Truth, the one who knows Truth simply begins … by telling his or her story of encountering Truth in meeting Jesus–the only One to be trusted.

Simple Truth #5

Based on 5 “simple truths” about God and our relationship with Him.

I AM VALUABLE TO GOD

Nothing I could ever do could cause God to cherish me. Also, nothing in my ability to do could ever make Him not treasure me. He chooses by His own will to delight in me (Psalm 18:19), to rejoice over me (Zeph 3:17), to choose me (Isaiah 41:9) and to love me (Jer 31:3). It’s that word “delight” that just gets me.

“Delight” means to take great pleasure from something. I am reduced to tears at the thought of my life being something that brings God great pleasure or intense enjoyment. As I read in His Word, I see that He has made me His child, and as a father’s heart can be stirred to joy just by seeing his child, so it must be with my Heavenly Father. Though oftentimes I can hurt His heart so deeply, He chooses to look at me through the lens of the cross on which He died for me. He would rather die than live without me, so that one day I’ll see Him face to face.

I wonder … Can you imagine walking up to Him, seeing a smile spread across His face as you approach, then seeing His nail-pierced hands enlivened as He applauds the very presence of you, His child? How true it is … We are valuable to God.

The 5 Simple Truths were birthed during a season of prayer and self-reflection.  Life was quite a struggle during that time, including some unhealthy thoughts about myself, others, and life.  As part of His process of helping me break free from those, the Lord helped me to sort out the lies I was believing about myself, others, and life.  Then, He drew me into His Word, showing me His Truth that counteracts each of those lies.  Those simple truths were a part of my emotional healing in that season and have become a line of greeting cards as well as a sermon.

Simple Truth #4

Based on 5 “simple truths” about God and our relationship with Him.

I AM LOVED AND CARED FOR

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Many people in my life have done many kind acts for me or on my behalf. Only One person has done such an extremely loving act as described in John’s gospel. God chose to show the depths of His love for me and every other person throughout time, even when we’ve all hurt Him tremendously since creation. He sent His Son to be the sacrifice for me. Instead of seeking my death for my own sin, God chose to accept the death of His Son in my place.

Not only has God shown His love in the death of Jesus, but He has also continued to show His unconditional love for me day after day. He fulfills His promises to sustain me, to meet my needs, and to take care of me. He chooses to call me His child and He allows me to call Him my Father, my Papa God, my Daddy. Because the Lord of all actively and genuinely loves me, I can never be unloved.

Simple Truth #3

Based on 5 “simple truths” about God and our relationship with Him.

I AM TOTALLY ACCEPTED

Too often I can let my thinking slip into the mindset that says, “I am what others think of me.” When I perceive those thoughts to be negative, undesirable, or repulsive, I can take on a fear of being rejected by those “others.” When I listen to these lies, I place a greater value on the acceptance of people than on the acceptance of God. Freedom from this fear of rejection can only be experienced when I choose to cling to the truth that God has completely accepted me.

Every sin of every person throughout all time was nailed to the cross as the nails were hammered into the body of Christ. Through the crucifixion, God took away the enemy’s power to condemn me for any sin I commit. This was necessary because our Holy God can have nothing to do with that which is unholy or sin-filled. He chose to sacrifice His own Son so that He and I could be reconciled, or brought together. I am totally acceptable to God because of reconciliation. The cross has made me forever and completely acceptable.

Simple Truth #2

Based on 5 “simple truths” about God and our relationship with Him.

I AM NEVER ALONEStrolling

No place in all creation is beyond the presence of the Lord of Creation. He assures me of His presence in His Word, both from His own words and from the testimony of the writers who knew Him.

How often I can find myself acting a lot like Peter did when he saw Jesus walking on the water. Peter asked Jesus to let him walk too. Jesus invited him and they walked together. Then, Peter seemed to have forgotten that Jesus was with him, and he chose to focus on the creation around him rather than the Creator beside him. In taking his focus off of Jesus, he began to sink in the water. Crying out to the Lord brought restoration of his footing. Together ONLY they continued strolling on the water. (Matthew 14:22-33)

Because the Lord is ever-present, I am not alone. He may be silent, or He may be fully evident while present. Either way, because of His very nature, I can continually be assured of company, someone with me, someone to listen to me. I can choose to pay attention to Him and welcome His company or I can ignore Him — just as Peter did on the water. The truth for me to cling to is that I am never alone.

Simple Truth #1

Based on 5 “simple truths” about God and our relationship with Him.

GOD IS ENOUGH

Dissatisfaction is actually a God-thing. He created you and me with a need that only He can fulfill. He offers incredibly more than I often choose to enjoy, simply because I choose to try to fill that God-spot with whatever I think should, could, or might fit there. How He longs for me to find fulfillment in Him instead of wasting my time, energy, and resources on things that can’t come close to satisfying!

In those rare times when I’ve taken Him at His word and sought Him first to meet my needs, I really have found that genuine satisfaction that He promises. I could even have written what David did, “My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods …” (Psalm 63:5). That’s the choice I need to make more often — the choice to believe that God is enough … and everything else that comes my way is part of HIS way of meeting my needs.
